Thank you for participating in this global art project. Please follow these step-by-step instructions to set up your sleep-tracking system.

Step 1: Install the Sleep-Tracking App and Configure Settings

• Download the App:
  Install Sleep as Android from the Google Play Store:

• Activate Premium:

1. • Use the promo code (you find it in your Sleep Kit) to unlock the lifetime premium version. (A big thanks to the developers for sponsoring this!)

Open SETTINGS
Tap the gear symbol (⚙️) in the top-right corner to open Settings.

• Language Settings:

1. 1. • The app uses your phone’s language by default. To switch to English and follow this instructions:
      • Go to Personalize
        • Scroll down to Force English → Activate.

• Adjust Sleep-Tracking Settings:

1. 1. • Go to Sleep Tracking:
        • Tap Awake Detection (eye icon) → Set to Medium Sensitivity.
      • Go to Automatic Sleep Tracking:
        • Tap Start Sleep Tracking → Select After Fall Asleep.

• Configure Wearables:

1. 1. • Go to Wearables
      • Tap Wearables → Select PolarBT and install the required components.
      • Go back to Wearables and enable the following:
        • Heart Rate Monitoring
        • Bluetooth Smart

• Services and Automation:

1. 1. • Go to Services
        → Scroll down to Automation:
        Tap Events → Disable all except:
        • REM
        • Deep Sleep
        • Light Sleep
        • Awake
        • Not Awake

• Activate Webhooks:
  Add your personal seed link provided in your Sleep Kit (do not share this link unless transferring the artwork).
  
  

• Ensure all settings are correctly configured before proceeding.

Step 2: Pair the Wristband with the App

• Turn on the Wristband:

• Press the side button until the light turns green.

• Activate Bluetooth & Connect the Band:

• Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and connect to the tracking band.

• Test the Connection:

• Open the Sleep as Android app.

• Navigate to Settings → Sleep Tracking.

• Tap Test to ensure the tracking band is connected and functioning correctly.

Step 3: Wristband Usage and Recommendations

• Charge the Wristband:

• Ensure it is fully charged before each sleep session. A full charge lasts ~12 hours. Use the included USB charger.

• Wear the Wristband Properly:

• Place it snugly but comfortably around your forearm or upper arm (recommended). Avoid making it too tight.

• Getting Comfortable:

• Wear the wristband earlier in the evening to get accustomed to it.

• Power On:

• Turn on the wristband about 30 minutes before bed. The green light indicates activation. The App will automatically detect when you are falling asleep, you don’t have to think about it.

• Ensure Connectivity:

• Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone for data transmission.

• Keep your phone plugged in during sleep to prevent energy-saving disruptions.

Checklist Before Sleeping

• The wristband is fully charged and worn correctly.

• The wristband is connected to the app (check sensor status in the app).

• Your phone’s Bluetooth and Internet are active.

• Your phone is charged or charging during sleep.

Note: The app’s AI may take a few nights to calibrate to your sleep patterns. Initial inaccuracies are normal.

You’ll start with a personal "seed" generated during your first sleep after registration. This seed is connected to your body’s activity and sleep states, growing and evolving in response to your individual sleep patterns. Over time, it develops a character shaped entirely by the unique rhythm of your rest.

Latent Entity is a dynamic cluster of all participant characters—interacting, clustering, and evolving together. Each individual character contributes to the collective, shaping and transforming the behavior of this shared sleep organism in realtime.

ABOUT Martin Dörr is a Berlin-based artist working in digital media, performance and installation. His work explores the interface between humanity, technology and consciousness. He has exhibited internationally and received numerous awards and grants, including the Deutschlandstipendium. He holds a degree in Fine Arts (with distinction, University of Art and Design Offenbach) and an M.A. in System/Game Design (with distinction, University of Applied Sciences Berlin). He also studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China on a DDA scholarship.
